Gardin Hadar

Limited Edition – Judaica Artefacts Version Update

Advisor: Prof. de Lange Chanan

What makes objects “sacred”? What infuses the material with spirit, emotion, or a story?

An attempt to create contemporary religious aesthetics for Shabbat artefacts, while identifying the movements, the gestures, and the essence of rituals. To take the silverware out of the display cabinet, to strip them off of solemnity and excess, of the awe and of the overpowering presence. The designation of the object in the ritual is what sanctifies it. The artefacts do not have to be fancy or expensive, they can be modest, simple and inobtrusive, close and accessible to the traditional person, to everyday life, to the home, and to the wallet.
