The project was motivated by my own love of tahini and that of the Israeli consumer. The tahini industry is growing and evolving, but the process of making raw tahini remains detached from the consumer and his preparation experience. The Mathini was created in order to offer direct consumption of fresh home-made tahini in small quantities in neighborhood businesses and in the domestic kitchen. The use of local materials (basalt stone from the Golan Heights) and working with craftsmen from the area were important values that guided me throughout the design and production process.
